Cold Times in the Pipe Lines Empty
PostSubject: Cold Times in the Pipe Lines   Cold Times in the Pipe Lines EmptyAugust 1st 2011, 9:53 am

A home insurance company revealed that there has been a 15% increase in home insurance claims this winter period from people who have experienced burst pipes in their homes as a result of the cold weather which has put its icy grips around the UK.

The insurance company therefore has issued a warning to British homeowners who are unprepared for the icy conditions and could leave themselves exposed to an expensive bill for replacing burst pipes if they do not have satisfactory home insurance.

Lloyds TSB said that they believe the insurance claims could continue to rise if the could weather persists. The insurer said with claims costing an average £1,400, with one claim topping £40,000, homeowners would benefit if they took the correct precautions.

By taking specific steps and safeguards, homeowners do not have to be left outside in the cold. Easy precautions include insulating outside pipes and tanks in the loft, keeping gutters, down pipes and drain gratings free of leaves. Also setting the heating to come on for a short time if a homeowner is away prevents the pipes from freezing.

A spokesperson from Lloyds TSB said: “After last year's comparatively mild winter, it's no surprise that so many homeowners have been caught unprepared by the cold snap. A little bit of preparation now could save you from having to deal with escaping water from burst pipes or a broken boiler. To give yourself peace of mind, make sure you have adequate insurance which will cover you if the icy conditions take their toll on your home.”

Weird home insurance claims
Meanwhile, those who do not have to claim on their home insurance policy for burst pipes have found other strange ways to file an insurance claim.

Lloyds TSB commented on how they recently received very humorous insurance claims from homeowners.

One claim involved a man who accidently shot his TV set whilst he was cleaning his gun. Whereas another claimed for damage to electronics such as players and mobiles after they admitted putting them in the dishwasher to be cleaned.

Phil Loney said about the wacky claims: "I never cease to be intrigued by the variety of claims we receive day in, day out. Our 2008 quirky claims round-up highlights that it's truly impossible to predict what's around the corner and whilst it's important to take sensible security, maintenance and safety steps, having a good insurance policy is vital to ensure long term peace of mind.”

Loney furthered:"We take pride in making our insurance policies clear and simple to understand so that when the unpredictable does happen you know what you're covered for.”
