When a bid has stood for 24 hours having not been raised, the player is then signed. This is how you calculate how many FA points you get: 5 + losses * 5 (tie = 1/2 of a loss). Standings are here:
http://madden09league.forummotion.com/2009-season-archives-f89/2008-2009-nfl-rankings-t1111.htmSo the Bills would have 50 points, Browns would have 32.5, etc.
There are a few types of free agency bids.
Needs bid -- This is a 0 point bid. You can only use a needs bid if you have a need at that position (aka you don't have enough players at the position, not that your players are bad). Needs bids may only be used on players rated below 70. If someone else wants to outbid, they can bid one point and you can't have the player for free anymore.
Practice Squad bid (PS bid) -- This is a 0 point bid also. Same rules apply as for needs bid except you can use a PS bid on anyone.
Normal bid -- Begins at 1 point. Once the bidding reaches double digits, you must outbid by 2.
To save time, I'm just making a list of all the players. If you want to bid on a player who doesn't have a thread yet, create a thread which includes the player's name, overall, and age as stated in the list.
Here is the signing scale:
Needs bid/PS bid - 1 year
1-5 pts - <3 years
6-15 pts - <4 years
16-25 pts - <5 years
26-35 pts - <6 years
36-45 pts - <7 years
+46 - <8 years
Any other questions, feel free to ask.
Rules for fines:
If you have won bids on players equal more points than you have, there will be a fine. First time offense is 5 pts, second time 10 pts, etc.
After the fine, your signings are recalculated, in order of final bid. Once you hit the cutoff, the bid defaults to the 2nd highest bid with 6 hours remaining from the time the bid defaulted.
