Round 1, Pick 16

Andre Smith, OT, Alabama

Baltimore Ravens' 2009 Draft Selections Andre-smith-e28093-ot-e28093-alabama

Grade: 93

Overall Football Traits
Production 1 Started every game (49) of his three-year career at Alabama (2006-'08) prior to his suspension for the 2009 Sugar Bowl. A consensus All-American and Outland Trophy winner as a junior in 2008.

Height-Weight-Speed 2 Adequate height for a tackle. Massive wide-body who could stand to lose a few pounds in the interest of improving his agility
.
Durability 2 Some concern regarding potential weight issues. However, he never missed a game due to injury during three seasons as fulltime starter for the Crimson Tide.

Character 4 Had no off the field issues during vast majority of his playing career at Alabama and coaches/teammates speak highly of him as a person. But no player has come under more scrutiny than Smith during the pre-draft process. First, he has suspended for 2009 Sugar Bowl vs. Utah for improper dealings with an agent. Second, he showed up to the combine out of shape and unsure if he was to workout. Third, he chose not to workout and left the combine early while failing to announce it to his group leader.

Offensive Tackle specific Traits

Strength/Toughness 2 Massive OT prospect. Thickly built. Good upper-body strength and elite lower-body strength. Can create a new line of scrimmage in the run game and can anchor versus powerful bull rushers when set in pass pro. Rarely loses a battle at the point of attack. Plays with a mean streak at times but is a bit inconsistent with his motor.

Agility 3 Displays good initial quickness and agility for his size. Shuffles well laterally when coming out of his stance and when working in one direction (either right or left). But he struggles when asked to change directions. He will occasionally be a step late getting into position as a second-level blocker. He lunges a lot when moving forward and struggles to recover.

Awareness 2 Shows adequate-to-good awareness. Understands assignments and picks up the blitz consistently (from an awareness standpoint). If he misses an assignment it's almost always due to physical, not mental. He knows the angles and where he's supposed to be almost always. He will stick with a play and find someone to hit if the ball carrier changes direction back his way.

Pass Protection 3 Can anchor versus top bull rushers when he's set with leverage. Shows adequate quickness in his pass pro set. Usually gets in position to protect the edge initially, but doesn't show ideal mirror-and-slide skills. Struggles to adjust to quick second-move (See: first series versus Kentucky when working against #51). Falls off far too many blocks. Doesn't jar DE's with his hand punch as effectively as he should.

Run Blocking 1 Motor runs hot and cold but he can be overpowering at the point of attack when he wants to be. Takes solid angles and is almost always in position if the block is at the line of scrimmage. Shows good upper-body power and even stronger in the lower body. Drives defenders off the line of scrimmage. A small concern here is that he sometimes is a bit slow getting into position as a second-level run blocker.

Round 2, Pick 48

DJ Moore, CB, Vanderbilt

Baltimore Ravens' 2009 Draft Selections Full60232

Grade: 86

Production 1 2006: Moore starts nine of the12 games he appears in during his true freshman season. He records 37 tackles, intercepts a pass, breaks up two passes and forces three fumbles. Moore returns three punts for a total of seven yards and two kickoffs for a total of 26 yards. 2007: Moore starts 11 of the 12 games he appears in recording 83 tackles including two tackles-for-loss and one sack. He intercepts six passes and breaks up 10 passes. Moore returns 32 kickoffs for a total of 823 yards (25.7 yard avg.) He also contributes on offense carrying the ball six times for a total of 78 yards. 2008: Moore starts all 13 games and continues to contribute on both sides of the ball. He records 58 tackles including 4.5 tackles-for-loss including one sack. Moore intercepts six passes and breaks up seven passes. Offensively, Moore carries the ball nine times for a total of 76 yards and catches seven passes for a total of 143 yards and two touchdowns. He returns 21 kickoffs for a total of 407 yards (19.4 yard avg.) and 17 punts for a total of 244 yards (14.4 yard avg.).

Height-Weight-Speed 4 Solid build but is shorter than ideal and his 40-yard dash times ? both at Combine and Pro Day ? are disappointing.

Durability 1 Injured left ankle in second quarter of 2008 Music City Bowl but returned to the field in the second half.

Character 1 Does whatever the coaching staff asks of him and a hard worker off the field. Intelligent person and player. Member of French honors organization.

Defensive Corner specific Traits

Recognition Skills/Toughness 1 Extremely instinctive in coverage and rarely gets caught out of position. Reads receivers routes quickly and gets a great jump on the ball as a result. Shows good awareness in zone coverage and does a nice job of baiting quarterbacks. Is not afraid to get his jersey dirty.

Closing Burst 3 A quick-twitch athlete and footwork is excellent. Smoothly transitions out of backpedal and shows above-average closing burst when the ball is thrown in front of him. Plays faster than 40 time indicates but there are concerns regarding his deep recovery speed.

Fluidity 1 Fluid and naturally flips hips when asked to turn and run with receivers. Elite ability to stop and start and does a sound job of mirroring receivers in man coverage.

Ball Skills 2 Natural hands and has experience lining up at receiver. Plays the ball extremely well and does a nice job of breaking up passes without getting flagged for pass interference. However, he isn't tall enough to compete for jump balls working against bigger receivers. (See 1st quarter Georgia 2008).

Run Support 3 Is willing in run support and shows some toughness. But his tackling skills must improve, especially in the open field. Also slight concerns about ability to shed bigger receivers.

Round 2, Pick 59

Patrick Chung, S, Oregon

Baltimore Ravens' 2009 Draft Selections 584844

Grade: 83

Overall Football Traits

Production 1 2004: Oregon red-shirts Chung as a 17-year old. 2005-06: Appears in 25 games (18 starts) recording 175 tackles and six interceptions. 2007: Starts all 13 games and accumulates 117 tackles and two interceptions. 2008: Starts all 13 games and registers 92 tackles, 6.5 TFL, and two sacks. He also adds one interception, six PBUs, one fumble recovery, and one forced fumble. Earns first team All-PAC 10 honors during both junior and senior campaigns (2007-'08).

Height-Weight-Speed 2 Adequate height and thickly built. Possesses adequate-to-good straight-line speed for a bigger strong safety type.

Durability 1 Chung has not missed playing time due to an injury throughout collegiate career (2005-'08).

Character 2 Team captain and emotional leader. Shows maturity and is a driven individual. Born in Kingston, Jamaica.

Defensive Safety specific Traits

Recognition Skills/Toughness 2 Is quick to find the ball. Brings a physical presence to the field and look to deliver knock out blows at times. Shows good awareness in zone and reacts quickly. Can be his own worst enemy at times, though, as some of his problems in coverage stem from over aggressiveness.

Closing Burst 2 Reads the quarterback's eyes and breaks on the ball thrown in front of him well. Closes quickly when coming forward. Shows better closing burst than 40-time indicates. Shows above-average recovery speed when he does get caught out of position.

Fluidity 3 Has quick feet and shows good lateral agility. He is physical, quick and instinctive enough to hold up one-on-one versus most TEs and he can reach the sideline in deep-half zone coverage. However, he does show some tightness in his hips and as a result, his range is limited. He does not display the consistent ability to match up one-on-one versus slot WR's and he will struggle if asked to hold up in deep-third zone.

Ball Skills 3 Ball skills are adequate but not good. Aggressive and shows good body control when attacking the football.

Run Support 2 Down-hill and reliable in run support. Effective run stopper when lining up in box. Breaks down well and shows good technique when making the tackle. At times is too aggressive and can overrun the ball.

Round 2, Pick 61

Derrick Williams, WR, Penn State

Baltimore Ravens' 2009 Draft Selections Pennstate_derrick_williams_sm

Grade: 85

Overall Football Traits

Production 2 Williams started six of the seven games he appeared in during his true freshman season in 2005 season finishing with 289 receiving yards, one receiving touchdown and 22 catches. He also recorded 105 rushing yards and three rushing touchdowns on 22 carries, returned 13 kickoffs for a total of 274 yards (21.1-yard average) and missed five games with an injury. (see durability) Williams started 12 of the 13 games he appeared in during the 2006 season finishing with 440 receiving yards, one receiving touchdown and 40 catches and recorded 145 rushing yards and one rushing touchdown on 36 carries. He also returned four kickoffs for a total of 69 yards (17.3-yard avg.) and 25 punts for a total of 301 yards (12-yard avg.) and one touchdown. Williams started 12 of the 13 games he appeared in during the 2007 season finishing with 529 receiving yards, three receiving touchdowns and 55 catches and recording 101 rushing yards and one rushing touchdown on 16 carries. He also returned 23 punts for a total of 254 yards (11-yard avg.) and one touchdown and returned 13 kickoffs for a total of 237 yards. (18.2-yard avg.). Williams started all 13 games in 2008 catching 44 passes for a total of 485 yards and four touchdowns and rushing for a total of 243 rushing yards and three touchdowns on 43 carries. He also returned 20 kickoffs for a total of 515 yards (25.8-yard avg.) and two touchdowns and 18 punts for a total of 169 yards (9.4- yard avg.) and one touchdown.

Height-Weight-Speed 2 Posted a disappointing 40-yard dash time at the Combine but reportedly had bronchitis and the flu. Ran a far quicker time at Pro Day and that time is more accurate reflection of speed seen on film. Adequate height and bulk.

Durability 3 Williams missed the final five games of the 2005 season after breaking his left arm late in the Michigan game that year.

Character 1 Developed into one of the leaders on offense and there have been no off-the-field incidents to our knowledge. Shown a willingness to play a number of different positions and willing to do whatever helps teams. Team captain in 2008.

Wide Receiver specific Traits

Separation Skills 2 Drives corners off the ball with excellent initial quickness and can gear down quickly when running comeback routes. Has experience lining up in the backfield and separates from linebackers with relative ease. Above-average leaper and compete with taller corners for jump balls. Can make crisp cuts and tempos routes but a little inconsistent in this area.

Ball Skills 3 Drops some passes that should catch but can bring the ball in without breaking stride. While muffed a couple of punts at the Senior Bowl generally does a good job of fielding punts.

Vertical Speed 2 Reaches top speed quickly and fast enough to run by most corners when they don't slow him down at the line. Makes corners pay when they don't give him a healthy cushion.

Run After Catch 2 Quick and shows a second gear when gets a seam, Can make first defender miss but doesn't always keep legs under him causing him to lose balance at times. Not a powerful open field runner that's capable of consistently picking up yards after contact. Puts the ball on the ground too much.

Competitiveness and Toughness 2 Not afraid to go over the middle. Willing blocker that fights to stay between the defender and the ball and has above-average upper body strength. Even used as a lead blocker in certain situations when lined up in the backfield but takes poor angles to blocks and doesn't always get into sound position as a result. Doesn't drive corners off the line. Great competitor that worked out at the combine despite suffering from the flu and bronchitis.

Round 3, Pick 83

Cody Brown, DE/OLB, Connecticut

Baltimore Ravens' 2009 Draft Selections 610x

Grade: 79

Overall Football Traits

Production 2 2005: Brown starts one of the 10 games he appears in during his true freshman season. 2006: Brown starts the first six games of the season but breaks arm during Army game misses the remainder of the year. 2007: Brown starts all 13 games and leads the defensive line with 50 total tackles including 16.5 tackles-for-loss and 7.5 sacks. 2008. Brown starts 12 of the 13 games he appears in accumulating 56 tackles, 16.5 tackles-for-loss, 11 sacks and eight pass breakups.

Height-Weight-Speed 3 Adequate height, bulk and top-end speed.

Durability 4 2006: Breaks arm in sixth game of the season and misses the rest of the year. 2005: Misses one game (Louisville) with an injury.

Character 2 Developed into the leader of the defense and a team captain in 2008. Blocked a kick in 2007 and in 2008.

Outside Linebacker specific Traits

Instincts/Recognition 3 Recognition skills are improving and did an excellent job of getting hands up when saw quarterback start throwing motion last year but still takes too long to locate the ball at times. Doesn't do a great job of recognizing down blocks and tight ends can drive him down the line of scrimmage.

Pursuit/Point of Attack 3 Excellent upper body strength, flashes a mean streak and tougher than size suggests. Motor runs hot and cold making mental toughness a concern. Flashes the ability to slip blocks quickly and disrupt running plays in the backfield. Flashes the ability to set the edge working against tight end but lower-body strength is marginal at best on film. Gets engulfed by offensive tackles too much and going to have problems holding ground when teams commit two blockers to him.

Tackling 3 Inconsistent open field tackler but he shows adequate body control in space and flashes the ability to deliver the big hit.

Pass Coverage 3 Very good initial quickness and closing burst. Agile and shows good lateral mobility. Some stiffness in hips but seems fluid enough to transition to rush-linebacker.

Pass Rusher 2 Displays the first-step quickness necessary to turn the corner in the NFL, shows better closing speed than timed speed suggests and can deliver the big hits when gets to the quarterback. Can redirect inside after starting outside. Active hands and does an adequate job of keeping blockers' hands off him but takes too long to disengage when blockers do get their hands on him.

Round 4, Pick 107

Tyronne Green, OG, Auburn

Baltimore Ravens' 2009 Draft Selections 643513

Grade: 74

Overall Football Traits

Production 2 Signs with Auburn as a defensive tackle in 2004 and redshirts that season. 2005-'08: Plays in 42 games, including 25 consecutive starts to finish his career.

Height-Weight-Speed 4 Is shorter than ideal with a squatty build but has long arms for his frame. Displays adequate-to-good straight-line speed.

Durability 2 Played in just five games as a high school senior due to injury. Has been durable throughout his career at Auburn, though.

Character 2 College coaches speak highly of him. A consistent player who continues to improve with more experience. No off-the-field issues to our knowledge.

Offensive Guard specific Traits

Strength/Toughness 3 Displays adequate lower-body strength abut lacks jarring upper-body power. Flashes occasional mean streak, but more of a technician than a mauler.

Agility 2 Shows good speed to the second-level as a run blocker and is capable of staying balanced and hitting the moving target in space. Light on his feet. Doesn't always look very pretty but he covers a lot of ground and has very good natural feet. Appears to wear down at times and will get a bit sloppy when he does, so conditioning will be an important area of emphasis for him in the NFL.

Awareness 2 Displays above-average awareness. Picks up the blitz and stunt consistently. Keeps head on a swivel. Has a good natural feel for defenders' coming and going.

Pass Protection 2 Shows quick set in pass pro and is light on his feet. Possesses long arms (33 ¾') and big hands (10 ¼') for his shorter frame, which he effectively uses to maintain separation. He's a natural knee bender. Stays balanced and does a solid job with his hand placement.

Run Blocking 2 Not a massive mauler in the running game. Rarely jars defenders with his punch. Lacks explosive initial power. However, he generally takes good angles and is in position as a run blocker. He also displays adequate leg strength to drive defenders off the line of scrimmage once locked on.

Round 5, Pick 142

Kyle Moore, DE, USC

Baltimore Ravens' 2009 Draft Selections 610x

Grade: 63

Production 3 2005-06: Moore appears in 24 games in a backup role. He makes 11 total tackles and recovers two fumbles. 2007: Moore starts 11 of the 13 games he appears in. He makes 35 tackles including 3.5 tackles-for-loss and intercepts two passes. 2008: Moore starts all 13 games and he makes 30 tackles including 9.5 tackles-for-loss and five sacks. He breaks up two passes and recovers one fumble.

Height-Weight-Speed 2 Good height, good bulk and adequate top-end speed.

Durability 3 2005: Misses two games with a sprained right knee. 2008: Undergoes arthroscopic knee surgery prior to spring practices.

Character 2 Majoring in sociology. There have been no off-the-field incidents to our knowledge.
Defensive End specific Traits

Agility/Quickness 3 Possesses quick first step and adequate-to-good lateral mobility but doesn't show great body control in space and takes too long to change directions when gets into the open field.

Strength/Toughness 3 Adequate upper body strength and can extend arms once locked on but lower body strength appears adequate-at-best on film.

Instincts 3 Locates ball quickly when defending the run. Did a better job of getting hands up when saw quarterback start throwing motion in 2008. Takes too long to recognize down blocks and can get washed down the line by tight ends. Takes too long to recognize screens.

Pass Rusher 3 Quicker than fast and can get to the quarterback when lines up at defensive tackle but doesn't do a good enough job of leaning inside and going to have a much tougher time turning the corner in the NFL. Lacks ideal closing speed. Doesn't force offensive linemen to change directions enough and has to win with first move to get to the quarterback as a result.

Run Stopper 3 Can scrape down the line and make the tackle in the backfield or near the line of scrimmage. Gets adequate hand placement, keeps blockers off frame and flashes the ability to shed blocks quickly but plays too high and gets driven off the ball times. Takes adequate pursuit angles and close down cutback lanes but lacks ideal range and isn't going to make as many plays in pursuit in the NFL.

Round 5, Pick 150

James Davis, RB, Clemson

Baltimore Ravens' 2009 Draft Selections Jamesdavis3

Grade: 62

Overall Football Traits

Production 2 Davis started six of the 11 games he appeared in during his true freshman season in 2005 finishing with 879 rushing yards and nine rushing touchdowns on 165 carries. He also caught 19 passes for a total of 152 yards and missed a game with an injury (see durability). Davis started all 13 games of the 2006 season, finishing with 1,187 rushing yards and 17 rushing touchdowns. He also caught six passes for a total of 115 receiving yards. Davis started 12 of the 13 games he appeared in during the 2007 season finishing with 1,064 yards and ten rushing touchdowns on 214 carries. He also caught 12 passes for a total of 51 receiving yards and two receiving touchdowns. 2008: Davis carries the ball 171 times for 751 yards and 11 scores. He catches 14 passes for 123 yards and zero TDs.

Height-Weight-Speed 2 Davis possesses prototypical height with adequate bulk and room on his frame to add some bulk if necessary. His straight-line speed is above average but not elite.

Durability 4 Davis broke a wrist against North Carolina State in 2005 and missed the next game. He also injured his shoulder and underwent surgery to repair the shoulder in the April, 2008. Played in all 13 games as a senior but running style and frame make him an injury risk in the NFL.

Character 3 No significant off-the-field issues but has voiced his displeasure with coaching staff on more than one occasion during career at Clemson.

Running Back specific Traits

Competitiveness 3 Runs hard at times and is capable of pushing the pile and breaking tackles. Does not run with same passion on every-down, though.

Vision 2 Doesn't always recognize the cutback lane. Otherwise, he displays good overall vision. Does a good job of setting up blockers when attacking the perimeter. Reads the flow of the defense, patient and does an above-average of job of locating seams on the move.

Explosiveness 3 Reaches top speed quickly and can get around the corner. Doesn't show a second gear when gets to second level and isn't going to outrun NFL defenses when he gets a seam.

Balance/Change-of-Directions 4 Displays adequate balance, makes crisp first cut and exploits cutback lanes when he sees them. But he does show stiffness in hips, he's not very elusive in space and he won't make many defenders miss.

Passing Game 3 Has shown the ability to catch the ball when facing the QB and is a solid underneath dump-off option. However, he lacks ideal experience catching the ball, he struggles to adjust to ball thrown outside of his frame and he is not a homerun threat after the catch. Shows adequate awareness in pass protection and flashes the ability to hold ground against blitzing defenders. However, he's not very physical at the point of attack and doesn't work as hard as he should to sustain.

Round 7, Pick 210

Graham Harrell, QB, Texas Tech

Baltimore Ravens' 2009 Draft Selections Graham-harrell-pictures-7

Grade: 43

Overall Football Traits

Production 1 Harrell's production in Texas Tech's pass-crazy offensive scheme must be kept in perspective. Still, he has completed 69.5-percent of his 1,330 passes for 10,260 yards with 86 TDs and 25 INTs combined during the past two seasons (2006-'07). Previously, Harrell redshirted in 2004 and played mostly in mop-up duty during six games in 2005. 2008: Harrell started all 12 games despite breaking the fingers in his non-throwing hand in nine different places. He completed 406 of his 568 passes (71.5-percent) for 4.747 yards and 41 touchdowns compared to seven interceptions.

Height-Weight-Speed 4 Height is adequate and he has added sufficient bulk to his frame. His straight-line speed is below average.

Durability 2 He is a bit undersized but Harrell has proven to be tough and durable while starting 38 consecutive games the past three seasons (2006-'08).

Character 2 Shows good poise in pressure situations. Great work ethic. Earned First Team Academic All-Big 12 in 2007. Also has above average football intelligence. Continues to emerge as a leader.

Quarterback specific Traits

Game Management 2 Showed improvement as a decision maker during senior season. Appears to be more confident and shakes off bad plays quicker now than he did earlier in career. Performed well in some clutch situations late in games. Showed an excellent understanding of his college system, loves the game and is a hard worker. Still can be a bit streaky, though. When things go poorly they tend to get magnified by him pressing.

Accuracy 2 Display adequate-to-good overall accuracy. Shows touch and timing as a passer. Knows how to change velocities and was doing a better job of leading receivers as a senior. Knows how to throw the fade-stop route accurately to the outside shoulder. Accuracy tends to suffer outside the numbers on deeper throws, though. Also struggles with accuracy when flushed from the pocket.

Release 3 Gets rid of the ball with adequate-to-good quickness. He's decisive and slings the ball out quickly when throwing underneath. However, he holds the ball too low when dropping and setting, and ends up starting too many of his attempts from his hip. A bit of a three-quarter delivery and he's not overly tall to begin with.

Arm Strength 2 Arm strength is average-to-below average. He gets a lot of RPM's on his throws but the velocity is not ideal when throwing outside the numbers. Those types of passers tend to struggle when throwing in poor conditions particularly high winds. Reminds us a bit of J.P. Losman (Bills) in that regard.

Mobility 4 Is not nearly as effective when throwing on the run. Is not used to making throws when flushed and is not asked to create after initial play breaks down very often. Foot quickness is adequate. Shows ability to occasionally avoid the rush and buy extra time, but not with great consistency.

Round 7, Pick 217

DeAngelo Smith, CB, Cincinnati

Baltimore Ravens' 2009 Draft Selections 100d06412f8e06890f54af34097195b5

Grade: 58

Overall Football Traits

Production 3 2004: Cincinnati red-shirts Smith. 2005-06: Smith starts one of the 20 games he appears in. He records a total of 24 tackles and intercepts one pass. Smith also returns four kickoffs for a total of 65 yards in 2006. 2007: Smith starts all 13 games accumulating 49 tackles and ties for the FBS-lead in interceptions with eight. He returns 12 kickoffs for a total of 296 yards. 2008: Smith starts all 14 games accumulating 53 tackles, 3.5 tackles-for-loss, two interceptions, 10 passes broken up and one forced fumble. He returns 23 punts for a total of 219 yards.

Height-Weight-Speed 4 Height and bulk are adequate but top-end speed is below-average.

Durability 1 Durability is not a concern to our knowledge.

Character 3 Member of the Bearcat Academic Honor Roll during the fall of 2006.

Defensive Corner specific Traits

Recognition Skills/Toughness 3 Reads keys and locates the ball quickly. Instinctive and seems to understand how offenses are trying to attack the coverage. Can line at corner or safety and can play man or zone coverage. Does not shy away from contact and has good upper body strength but could be more aggressive in run support. Gambles at times and vulnerable to double moves. Can get pushed around by bigger receivers despite being tough for size.

Closing Burst 3 Can plant back foot and drive out of backpedal when a receivers catches the ball is caught in front of him but doesn't show the same kind of burst . Marginal recovery speed and going to have tougher time overcoming false steps in the NFL.

Fluidity 3 Quick-twitch athlete that has fluid hips and can change directions in an instant. Can turn and run with receivers smoothly but isn't fast enough to run with most NFL receivers. Allows too much separation when playing off man and appears more comfortable playing close to the line of scrimmage.

Ball Skills 3 Can snatch the ball out of the air. Has adequate leaping ability, times jumps well and flashes the ability to highpoint the ball. Extends arms and shows a good sense of timing when breaking up passes but doesn't track the ball well enough.

Run Support 4 Does a nice job of going low and chopping ball carriers legs out from under him but misses the occasional open field tackle and not a big hitter. Needs to shed or slip blocks quicker.
